Founded in 1982, the association promotes poetry, poets and spoken-word art and brings writers and audiences together. It organises poetry, poetry-video and stage-poetry competitions and a summer poetry festival. Tens of thousands of poems written by members of the public have been collected over the years.
Year-round activities include poetry cafés and open-mic sessions. Collected environmental poems have been used in poetry products, and the association helped establish a park of Japanese cherry trees.
