Parish chaplain Carl Gustaf Taulerus discovered the iron- and hydrogen sulphide-rich spring in 1802. Its water was marketed as health water in the early 19th century, and its popularity contributed to the city's first spa. A spa visit with a trip to the spring was offered in 1836.
The city restored the long-neglected site, adding a sturdy terrace and walking path. The water has a metallic taste and a hydrogen sulphide smell. The city health inspector states that drinking is at one's own risk; iron levels exceed domestic water recommendations.
