Founded in 1971, this private Steiner school in Tampere is run by its supporters' association. Pupils can stay from pre-primary through grades 1 to 9 and upper secondary to the matriculation exams. The curriculum follows Steiner pedagogy: subjects are approached through stories and as wholes. Art, crafts and sociability are central, and humour is "allowed and welcome". Taidekoulu Tuulikello provides basic arts education in music.
Tuition is free, and anyone may apply. Morning and afternoon activities are available for grades 1 and 2. Lunch comes from the organic restaurant Timjami, and the 326-seat Aurora hall hosts celebrations and performances. The entrance is wheelchair accessible.
