This traditional Finnish restaurant in Helsinki opened in 1981 and has its roots in Karelia around Vyborg. The coastal Karelian interior, largely unchanged since, was designed by artist Seppo Huunonen, grandson of the Vyborg fisherman Konsta, and its walls hold evacuee mementoes, old photographs, fish traps and nets. The buffet includes a fish table, Karelian pies with egg butter, a daily soup and hot dishes such as oven-baked salmon and Karelian stew.
Dinner and weekday lunch are served as a buffet, and most dishes are lactose-free and gluten-free. Tables can be booked online, by email or phone, and groups have private rooms. Next door, Piilopirtti is a Prohibition-themed cocktail bar.
